How To Escape From A Cop Car And A Jail Cell

July 21, 2012

Watching this police video of a couple escaping from police custody is like watching scenes from an action packed movie...except it's real!

MAN BREAKS OUT OF POLICE CAR

Shauntae Stratton and her boyfriend, Joe Chatwin, allegedly stole the personal information of more than 250 people in a crime spree. The couple was arrested at a Lagoon campground in Farmington, Utah where they were living in a stolen motor home that they paid for with a counterfeit check. Police found driver licenses, passports, credit cards and birth certificates inside the motor home.

When two police officers started talking to the couple about burglaries at the camp ground, Joe dashed off but police chased after him and caught him, then took the two in separate police cars to the Farmington police station for questioning.

Shauntae was combative when officer Snyder tried to lock her in a holding cell. The other officer who was transporting her boyfriend, Joe, left him handcuffed in the police car so he could help officer Snyder lock Shauntae in the cell. Meanwhile, Joe slipped out of his handcuffs, kicked out a rear window of the police car and escaped on foot.

WOMAN BREAKS OUT OF JAIL CELL

While officers were busy searching forJoe, Shauntae took something out of her blouse and picked the lock on her holding cell. When the the officers looked around, they saw Shauntae running out of the police station and into the freedom of a heavily wooded nearby park.

A K-9 officer and a police dog tracked Shauntae and found her hiding in some bushes about an hour later. Officers bound her in full-body restraints.

"We have this thing called Body Wrap, that secures you as tight as can be," said Officer Snyder, "and she was able to slip that as well, right before we got to the jail."

Although Shauntae fought her way out of the body wrap, police were able to subdue and book her into the Davis County jail on a dozen charges, including vehicle burglary, theft, forgery and escape.

ON THE RUN

In the meantime, police received a phone call from a nearby resident whose 2007 black Hummer was missing from his garage. Officer Snyder said police believe Joe hopped a fence, went into the garage, saw the vehicle with the keys left in the ignition and drove off.

Police say Joe got away in the black Hummer, dumped it and is still on the run.
